Aurubis Launches Advanced Sludge Processing Plant in Belgium, Boosting Metal Recycling

Aurubis has officially inaugurated its new Advanced Sludge Processing by Aurubis (ASPA) plant at its Beerse site in Belgium, marking a major step forward in sustainable metal recycling. The state-of-the-art facility is designed to efficiently extract tin and precious metals from anode sludge, a byproduct of electrolytic copper refining produced at Aurubis’ sites in Beerse and Lünen, Germany.

This €33 million investment will enhance Aurubis’ recycling capabilities, creating around 20 new jobs. By accelerating the extraction process and fully recovering tin, the ASPA plant increases the efficiency of metal recycling while promoting circular economy practices.

COO of Multimetal Recycling, Inge Hofkens, emphasized that ASPA is an example of Aurubis’ innovative approach to multimetal production, saying the company is “pioneering sustainable multimetal production and taking recycling to the next level.” Dirk Vandenberghe, Managing Director of Aurubis Beerse, added that the success of the plant is the result of teamwork and dedication, further strengthening the integration of the company’s European sites. icon
