China Mineral Resources has announced significant developments in its lithium salt production and power infrastructure. The company, with an annual ore processing capacity of 4.18 million tons and 66,000 tons of battery-grade lithium salts, has achieved stable production. The company’s lithium mines ensure a steady supply of raw materials for its lithium salt operations.
Efforts to reduce production costs have been ongoing, involving measures such as optimizing raw material product structures, building photovoltaic power stations, and expanding municipal power supply capacity. In May 2023, China Mineral Resources invested in a public-private partnership project to construct a 132KV transmission and substation in Zimbabwe. This project, completed on March 17, 2024, includes 112 kilometers of power lines connecting the TOKWE 330KV Substation to the Bikita Mine. The project enhances power supply capacity for towns along its route and improves power security for the Bikita Mine, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and lowering production costs.
Additionally, the company invested in a photovoltaic power generation project at the Bikita Mine, completed in February 2024. This project is designed to generate 21 million kWh of electricity annually. Currently, it produces up to 80,000 kWh daily, averaging 575,000 kWh, which meets over 20% of the mine’s daily power consumption. This significant reduction in electricity costs contributes to the overall efficiency and sustainability of the Bikita Mine operations.
