EGA and Inalum Achieve Milestone with Smelter Upgrades

Pilot Project Completion:

Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) and PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (Inalum) have announced the successful start-up of five pilot reduction cells at Inalum’s Kuala Tanjung aluminium smelter. This initiative utilized EGA’s specialized technology, marking a significant advancement in their ongoing collaboration.

The Broader Vision:

The pilot project is the initial phase of an ambitious plan to further upgrade 298 pots in the smelter. This would amplify the current amperage and is projected to increase the production capacity by approximately 10%. EGA has a rich history of similar upgrades at its facilities in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Key Contributions:

EGA’s team has dedicated over 10,000 hours to the Kuala Tanjung upgrade, with significant time spent on-site. Notably, a considerable portion of the team included UAE Nationals and women.

Leadership Insights:

Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, CEO of EGA, emphasized the success of the pilot pots as a testament to EGA’s global technological prowess. Meanwhile, Danny Praditya, President Director of Inalum, highlighted the fruitful collaboration and acknowledged EGA’s expertise in aluminium smelting technology.

Future Prospects:

The upgraded pilot cells boast improvements in infrastructure and the integration of EGA’s state-of-the-art Pot Control System. Furthermore, EGA has secured exclusive rights to implement its advanced DX+ Ultra smelting technology for potential expansion of the smelter, contingent on feasibility. The emphasis remains on sustainability, with EGA prioritizing the use of renewable energy sources like hydropower in the smelter’s operations.
