Hindustan Zinc Reports Slight Decrease in Mined Metal Output to 252,000 Tonnes in Q2

On Monday, Vedanta group company Hindustan Zinc announced a 1% decrease in its mined metal output, producing 252,000 tonnes in Q2 of the current fiscal year. For comparison, the production was 255,000 tonnes in Q2 of the previous year.

The drop, according to a BSE filing, was primarily due to reduced ore production at the Rampura Agucha & Kayad mines. However, this was somewhat offset by improved metal grades overall.

Refined metal production for Q2 was reported at 241,000 tonnes, marking a 2% decline compared to the same period last year. The integrated zinc production stood at 185,000 tonnes, down by 2% YoY and 12% from the previous quarter. Meanwhile, refined lead production remained steady at 57,000 tonnes but saw a 12% increase sequentially.

Notably, the company’s wind power generation in Q2 was 157 million units, a 27% rise from the same period last year.

Hindustan Zinc holds the distinction of being India’s largest and the world’s second-largest integrated zinc producer. The company is a Vedanta subsidiary, with Vedanta holding a 64.9% stake and the government owning 29.5%.
