Ionic Rare Earths Limited Commences Equipment Installation at Makuutu Demonstration Plant

Progress in Makuutu Rare Earths Project

Ionic Rare Earths has announced significant progress in the construction of its technical facility and the Demonstration Plant at the Makuutu Rare Earths Project in Uganda. The project is being undertaken by the local Ugandan operating entity Rwenzori Rare Metals.

Facility Goals and Testing

The Makuutu Demonstration Plant aims to optimize metallurgical test work and provide technical validation for various aspects of the project, including grade control, mine design, material handling, and metallurgical reconciliation. The facility will also support project financing and strategic partner activities.

Current Developments

Construction of the technical facility is nearing completion, with off-site testing of metallurgical equipment already underway prior to installation at the site. The initial bulk sample collection has begun through auger drilling to provide feed material for the operation’s desorption columns and cribs.

Mining License Application and Verification

Ionic Rare Earths has met all requirements for the large-scale mining license application. Verification results, conducted by the Directorate of Geological Survey and Mines (DGSM), will be sent to the Minister of Minerals and Energy (MEMD) to recommend the awarding of the license.

Composition of Makuutu’s Rare Earth Basket

The Makuutu project’s rare earth basket contains 71% magnet and heavy rare earths content. This makes it one of the most advanced heavy rare earth projects globally, poised to be a source for new supply chains in Europe, the US, and Asia. icon
