KBR, a global leader in engineering, procurement, and construction, has entered into an alliance agreement with GeoLith SAS to enhance lithium extraction technologies. This partnership marks a significant step in promoting sustainable practices in lithium production—a critical component in the burgeoning electric vehicle industry.
KBR will become the exclusive global licensor of GeoLith’s advanced Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) technology, Li-Capt. This innovative technology allows for the extraction of pure lithium concentrate from diverse and previously untapped sources, including geothermal and oil well brines, with zero emissions. Li-Capt is notably versatile, being adaptable to various brine compositions, making it a robust solution for lithium extraction across different geographical and environmental conditions.
Together with KBR’s existing battery material technologies, notably the PureLiSM technology which produces high-purity lithium, the partnership is poised to offer clients a comprehensive end-to-end solution. This solution will enable the production of battery-grade lithium carbonate or lithium hydroxide monohydrate directly from lithium brine feedstock, crucial for manufacturing advanced batteries.
