Livent Acquires Stake in ILiAD Technologies to Advance Direct Lithium Extraction

Strategic Investment and Technology Licensing

Livent Corporation has announced its acquisition of a minority stake in the parent company of ILiAD Technologies, a subsidiary of EnergySource Minerals (ESM). This move allows Livent to license the ILiAD (Integrated Lithium Adsorption Desorption) technology platform, enhancing its capabilities in direct lithium extraction (DLE).

Innovative Extraction Technology

ILiAD Technologies brings an innovative DLE technology to the table, developed through seven years of research and pilot testing by ESM. This technology is designed to recover high-purity lithium chloride from various lithium-laden brine resources globally, offering efficiency and flexibility.

Deployment Plans in Argentina and Beyond

Livent’s investment in ILiAD Technologies grants it the rights to deploy ILiAD technology at its lithium brine resource in Argentina, Salar del Hombre Muerto. The company is also evaluating the technology’s potential across its entire portfolio. ILiAD’s technology aligns with Livent’s existing process technologies and could lead to improvements in energy use, carbon footprint, and water usage. The commercial application of ILiAD at Livent could commence as early as 2025. icon
