Lithium-ion battery recycling company Lohum has unveiled its expansion into Nepal, with ambitious plans to deliver 25,000 metric tons of electric vehicle (EV) battery materials to various partners associated with leading automobile brands in the country. This strategic partnership aims to bolster Nepal’s energy self-sufficiency by regenerating critical transition materials through battery recycling, contributing to a sustainable energy future.
The collaboration is set to facilitate the recycling of an estimated 200,000 batteries and the production of battery materials over a five-year period, utilizing batteries from EV brands distributed by the partnering companies. Lohum asserts its dominant presence in India, securing between 70-80 percent of the battery recycling market share.
Lohum will serve as the exclusive extended producer responsibility partner, managing end-of-life batteries for a majority of EV brands operating in Nepal. Chetan Jain, Senior Vice President at Lohum, expressed enthusiasm for the innovative partnership, emphasizing its potential to revolutionize industries and drive the adoption of clean energy solutions in Nepal.
