Metso Outotec Oyj has secured an order from Freeport-McMoRan for a comprehensive tankhouse material handling solution, valued at over EUR 10 million. The order, part of the Minerals segment’s Q4 2023 bookings, is for the El Paso electrorefinery in Texas, USA. The technology package includes advanced Outotec Anode Preparation and Cathode Stripping Machines, featuring robotic electrode handling to enhance layout and efficiency in the refinery.

Project Goals and Metso’s Role

Mikko Rantaharju, Vice President of Metso’s Hydrometallurgy business line, stated that the project aims to upgrade the copper production process at the El Paso facility. Metso’s experience in tankhouse equipment, combined with robotic technology, is expected to fulfill the material handling needs of the refinery.
