Metso Secures Over EUR 10 Million Contract for Copper Furnace Upgrade in Bulgaria

Aurubis Bulgaria has entered into a significant agreement with Metso, focusing on the modernization of a copper flame melting furnace located in Pirdop-Zlatitsa, Bulgaria. This contract, valued at over EUR 10 million, marks a pivotal development in the copper industry and has been recorded in Metso’s Minerals segment’s orders for the first quarter of 2024.

This collaboration underscores a longstanding partnership between Aurubis and Metso, with the original introduction of Outotec’s flame melting furnace technology to a copper smelter dating back to 1987. Over the years, Aurubis has undertaken periodic upgrades and enhancements to this critical infrastructure, with the most recent refurbishment completed in 2016.

The scope of the current contract encompasses the provision of new cooling elements, alongside consultancy services aimed at overseeing the installation and commissioning phases of the project. icon
