Mixed Start to the Year for Rosebery Mine as Zinc Production Fluctuates

Rosebery Mine, operated by MMG Limited, has experienced a varied start to the year, showcasing both increases and declines in zinc production. In the first quarter of 2024, the mine reported a significant 49% increase in zinc concentrate production compared to the same period in 2023. This improvement was attributed to stable production levels, recovering from setbacks such as a bushfire incident and worker availability issues that impacted output in early 2023.

However, the news isn’t all positive. Rosebery’s zinc output for the March quarter of 2024 was 13% lower than in the preceding December quarter. MMG attributed this decline to the mining sequence which also affected the production of other metals like gold, silver, and lead.

Despite these fluctuations, the plant has demonstrated robust performance, achieving the highest zinc recovery rates since 2017 over the last two quarters. This success is supported by ongoing operational improvement initiatives.

Adding to MMG’s strategic developments, the company recently expanded its portfolio by acquiring the Khoemacau copper and silver mine in Botswana for $2.88 billion. Interim chief executive Liangang Li expressed optimism about the integration of Khoemacau and the potential for increased production across MMG’s operations in 2024 and beyond, aiming to bolster the company’s growth trajectory.записаться на прием для сдачи биометрии icon
