Nordic Nickel Awarded Inaugural BHP Xplor Funding for Exploration in Lapland

The recently listed nickel sulphide explorer Nordic Nickel has been selected as one of seven junior companies to participate in BHP’s inaugural Xplor programme. BHP Xplor is a cohort-based accelerator programme designed to help early-stage mineral exploration start-ups to find the critical resources required for the global energy transition, such as copper and nickel. The programme provides candidates with a one-off, non-dilutive grant of $500,000, together with in-kind services, mentorship and networking opportunities with industry and investors and connections.

Why it matters:

The programme will provide Nordic Nickel with valuable funding and resources to further explore and advance their Pulju nickel project in northern Finland, where they are targeting tier-one scale discoveries in the Central Lapland Greenstone Belt. The funding will specifically be used to fund deeper holes to test known electromagnetic (EM) targets that appear to be located near the base of the ultramafic cumulate layer at Hotinvaara. These targets are prospective for large-scale nickel sulphide discoveries similar to the world-class Sakatti deposit, which is located in the same belt. The programme also allows Nordic Nickel access to BHP’s world-class networks and expertise, which will aid in unlocking the full potential of this asset over the next 12 months and beyond. icon
