Perseus Mining’s Yaouré Mine Sees Production Dip, Offset by Gains Elsewhere

Perseus Mining, an Australian firm with significant operations in West Africa, reported a 6% decrease in gold production at its Yaouré mine in Côte d’Ivoire for the year 2023, producing 271,499 ounces compared to 294,892 ounces in 2022. This decline at Yaouré contributed to an overall dip in the company’s Ivorian gold output, which fell to 325,888 ounces in 2023 from the previous year.

Despite the downturn at Yaouré, Perseus Mining’s overall performance in the West African sub-region remained robust, with total gold production reaching 528,486 ounces in 2023, an increase from 521,221 ounces in 2022. This uptick is largely attributed to a significant 17% year-on-year increase in production at the Edikan mine in Ghana, which yielded 202,599 ounces of gold.

The company’s second Ivorian mine, Sissingué, showed a slight improvement, with gold production inching up from 53,094 ounces in 2022 to 54,389 ounces in 2023. This steady performance underscores Perseus Mining’s diversified operational strength across its West African portfolio.

Entering the 2024 fiscal year, which began on July 1, 2023, Perseus Mining has set its production forecast to range between 491,000 and 517,000 ounces across all its operations. Specifically, the Yaouré mine is expected to contribute between 235,000 and 247,000 ounces to this total, indicating optimism for a rebound in production levels. icon
