Prysmian and Aurubis Establish Long-term Copper Wire Rod Supply Agreement

On April 23, 2024, Prysmian and Aurubis announced a long-term contract for the supply of copper wire rod, emphasizing their commitment to sustainable practices in their operations. This agreement secures a consistent supply of copper, a critical material for Prysmian’s manufacturing processes, particularly at its European facilities.

Laura Colli, Chief Purchasing Officer at Prysmian, highlighted the partnership’s focus on sustainability and its role in supporting energy transition and digitalization. Martin Sjoberg, SVP Commercial at Aurubis, noted the significance of responsibly sourced materials alongside recycled inputs to meet the growing demands of the green transformation.

Prysmian has committed to achieving net-zero carbon emissions across its value chain by 2050, with a specific intermediate goal of reducing Scope 3 emissions by 28% by 2030 relative to a 2019 baseline. The company also aims to increase the recycled copper content in its products to 15-16% by 2025.

Aurubis is advancing its sustainability goals with a strategy to become carbon neutral well before 2050. The company, known for producing copper with significantly lower carbon emissions than the global average, plans to reduce its Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 50% and Scope 3 emissions by 24% per ton of copper cathodes by 2030. icon
