Russian Scientists Develop Cost-Effective and Eco-Friendly Method to Convert Methane into Hydrogen

Scientists in Russia have pioneered a new method for converting methane into hydrogen using a special catalyst, significantly reducing costs and enhancing the environmental friendliness of hydrogen energy, according to the Russian Science Foundation (RNF).

Researchers at Skoltech’s Center for Hydrocarbon Science and Technology have achieved remarkable results in laboratory conditions, successfully converting up to 45% of methane into hydrogen. By utilizing readily available components such as nickel and aluminum oxide, the team demonstrated the potential to convert natural gas directly at extraction sites.

The RNF highlighted that this breakthrough could revolutionize hydrogen energy by making production more affordable and drastically reducing its environmental impact. icon
