Kupper, a Skolkovo resident company within the VEB.RF group, has made a significant leap in the mining and processing equipment sector by developing and commencing the production of an innovative gear oil. This new product, designed to replace imported gear oil, promises to double the service life of rock crushing equipment, marking a pivotal advancement in the industry’s operational efficiency and sustainability.
Leveraging patented CLAD© technology, which utilizes copper ions, Kupper has succeeded in producing environmentally friendly oils that not only protect surfaces from wear but also aid in their restoration, thereby extending the equipment’s operational lifespan. This innovative approach to gear oil production underscores Kupper’s commitment to integrating cutting-edge technologies with strict quality control measures.
Konstantin Malyutin, the project manager of Skolkovo’s energy-efficient technologies cluster, highlighted the company’s role as a participant and finalist in the GreenTech Startup Booster 2023-24 accelerator. The program has garnered significant interest from industrial partners eager to implement Kupper’s products within their operations, attesting to the product’s potential and the company’s growing influence in the market.
A successful trial conducted in 2023 at a mining and processing plant demonstrated the product’s efficacy in reducing gearbox operating temperatures and halving the oil change interval. This not only leads to a reduction in maintenance costs but also significantly diminishes part wear, further enhancing the sustainability and cost-efficiency of mining operations.
Inessa Steklova, Deputy General Director for Brand and Communications at Kupper, expressed the company’s objective to substitute gear oil from foreign manufacturers that have become inaccessible in the Russian market. The successful testing of their development paves the way for its application in extending the service life of gyratory crushers and other critical mining equipment.
With plans underway to supply this groundbreaking gear oil to the enterprise where initial tests were conducted, Kupper is also eyeing potential customers among metallurgical companies. These companies operate crushers, mills, and other equipment reliant on gearboxes, representing a significant market opportunity for Kupper’s innovative solution.
