Sohar Aluminium and OAPIL Forge Partnership to Produce Green Aluminium in Oman

Sohar Aluminium and Oman Aluminium Processing Industries (OAPIL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during Oman Sustainability Week, underscoring their commitment to environmental sustainability and the production of low-carbon green aluminium. This initiative is aligned with Oman’s target to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

The collaboration focuses on harnessing renewable energy and recycling aluminium scrap to manufacture aluminium products. Eng. Said bin Mohammed Al Masoudi, CEO of Sohar Aluminium, highlighted the partnership as a stride towards fulfilling the Sultanate’s decarbonisation goals and enhancing the in-country value through sustainable practices. This partnership originated from discussions at the Aluminium Recycling Forum hosted by Sohar Aluminium, which promoted recycling and a circular economy.

Erkan Aydogdu, CEO of Oman Cables Industry SAOG and Shareholder’s Representative for OAPIL, emphasized the strategic importance of sustainability for Oman Cables Group. OAPIL, a subsidiary of Oman Cables, is dedicated to pioneering efforts in recycling and reducing waste at every production stage. This MoU will explore opportunities for producing green aluminium rods and conductors, aligning with the decarbonisation goals of global clients and setting a regional benchmark for Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards. icon
