Alcoa Announces Matt Reed as New EVP and Chief Operations Officer

Alcoa Corporation has appointed Matt Reed as the new Executive Vice President (EVP) and Chief Operations Officer, effective January 1, 2024. Reed, currently serving as the Vice President of Operations for Australia, will transition to this global role, taking charge of Alcoa's extensive operations.

Leadership in Global Operations

In his new position, Reed will oversee Alcoa's worldwide operations, encompassing bauxite mines, alumina refineries, and aluminum smelters. Based in Western Australia, his responsibilities will include enhancing operational excellence across various facets such as safety, environmental management, productivity, cost management, and strategic planning.

Reed's Leadership Journey

Reed joined Alcoa in June 2023 and concurrently holds the role of President, Alcoa of Australia. Alcoa's President and CEO, William F. Oplinger, commended Reed's leadership qualities, emphasizing his integrity and passion for fostering capable, motivated teams. Oplinger expressed confidence in Reed's ability to drive a high-performance culture and manage complex initiatives across the company's assets.

Extensive Industry Experience

Bringing over 25 years of experience in the resource sector, Reed's expertise spans mining and minerals processing. Before joining Alcoa, he was the Operations Executive (Chief Operating Officer) at OZ Minerals, managing assets and projects in Australia and Brazil. Additionally, Reed has held the position of Executive Managing Director (Chief Operating Officer) at SIMEC Mining, where he was responsible for multisite commodity exploration, development, operations, business development, and marketing.

Reed's appointment is seen as a strategic move by Alcoa to bolster its global operational capabilities and drive growth in its mining and manufacturing segments.
