BMW to Kickstart Construction of Battery Factory in Lower Bavaria

BMW has received approval to commence the construction of its new battery factory in Lower Bavaria, Germany, earlier than initially planned. The Straubing-Bogen district office's endorsement paves the way for construction activities to start immediately after Easter, on April 2, as confirmed by a company spokesperson.

The initial phase of construction will involve soil removal and transport, alongside preparatory measures for the construction site and the installation of construction and office containers. Further approvals for the buildings are anticipated in the months to come.

This strategic move by BMW aims to establish a facility capable of assembling up to 600,000 high-voltage batteries annually, located in the communities of Irlbach and Strasskirchen. The development underscores BMW's commitment to advancing its electric vehicle (EV) production capabilities and enhancing its sustainability goals.
