Bold Baatar Appointed as Rio Tinto’s New Chief Commercial Officer

Rio Tinto has announced the appointment of Bold Baatar as the new Chief Commercial Officer (CCO), a pivotal role aimed at steering the company's commercial and business development activities worldwide. Baatar, who is transitioning from his current position as Chief Executive Copper, is set to succeed Alf Barrios, following Barrios' decision to retire from the company.

Baatar's transition to the CCO role will commence immediately with a focus on business development, and he is scheduled to relocate to Singapore to formally take up his new position on 1 September 2024. The announcement of Baatar's successor as Chief Executive Copper will be made in the coming months.

To ensure a seamless transition, Barrios will remain in his current role until the end of August. Post-retirement, he will continue to contribute to Rio Tinto as Chair for China, Japan, and Korea, and as a member of the Executive Committee until the conclusion of 2024.

In his forthcoming role, Baatar will oversee Rio Tinto’s sales and marketing, procurement, marine, and logistics operations. Additionally, he will spearhead the Group's business development efforts and maintain his executive responsibilities for Guinea, particularly leading the company’s engagements with joint venture partners on the Simandou project.
