Project Overview

Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) has commenced the construction of the United Arab Emirates' largest aluminium recycling plant. The facility, designed to have an annual capacity of 170 thousand tonnes, will be located adjacent to EGA's Al Taweelah smelter. The plant aims to recycle both post-consumer aluminium scrap, such as used window frames, and pre-consumer scrap from extrusion production, into premium aluminium billets. The new facility is expected to be operational within three years.

Impact on Local Economy and Global Market

Currently, a significant portion of the UAE's aluminium scrap is exported for processing. With the completion of this plant, EGA anticipates becoming the UAE's largest consumer of aluminium scrap. The recycling facility will support the UAE's Operation 300bn industrial growth strategy, focusing on producing low carbon metal for local and international markets under the product name RevivAL.

Global Demand and Sustainability Efforts

Market analysis predicts a substantial increase in global demand for recycled aluminium, potentially reaching 57 million tonnes by 2040. Recycled aluminium is projected to contribute significantly to the growth in global aluminium supply over the next two decades. Aluminium recycling is notably more energy-efficient than primary production, requiring 95% less energy and significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
