Emirates Global Aluminium Partners with ITOCHU Corporation to Boost Aluminium Production and Decarbonization

Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) recently announced a significant memorandum of understanding (MOU) with ITOCHU Corporation of Japan to collaborate on aluminium production growth with a focus on decarbonization and developing domestic industries in EGA's supply chain.

The MOU was signed during the UAE's Japan-UAE Business Forum and in the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including Abu Dhabi Executive Council member Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed and Japan's Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.

Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, the Chief Executive Officer of Emirates Global Aluminium, expressed the importance of the partnership in a press release, highlighting the long-standing collaboration between EGA and ITOCHU, which has been a crucial part of the trade relationship between the UAE and Japan. The new collaboration aims to further expand this partnership, benefiting both companies and strengthening the relationship between the two nations.

This isn't the first agreement between the two companies, as they signed a previous MOU in Japan a few months ago. The focus of that agreement was on leveraging the industrial capabilities of both firms concerning EGA's domestic operations.

Keita Ishii, President, and Chief Operating Officer of ITOCHU Corporation, emphasized the significance of the overall relationship between ITOCHU and the UAE. He expressed the goal of deepening their work together to meet the increasing demand for aluminium in the decades to come.

EGA and ITOCHU have a longstanding relationship dating back over three decades when ITOCHU began marketing EGA's products in Japan's domestic market.

Headquartered in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, Emirates Global Aluminium is an aluminium conglomerate formed by the merger of Dubai Aluminium (DUBAL) and Emirates Aluminium (EMAL) in 2013. The firm, equally owned by Mubadala Development Company of Abu Dhabi and Investment Corporation of Dubai, has interests in bauxite/alumina and primary aluminium smelting. With this new collaboration, EGA aims to strengthen its position in the aluminium industry while also advancing towards sustainability and decarbonization.
