New Mining and Ore Processing Plant to Boost Amur Region’s North Development

In a significant development for the Amur Region's economy, a meeting chaired by Governor Vasily Orlov has outlined plans for the development of the large Kun-Manye copper-nickel deposit. The project, spearheaded by the investor Highland Gold Group, is set to culminate in the construction of a mining and processing plant, with an anticipated launch date in 2028.

Mikhail Denisov, Director of the Department of State Support and Interaction with Federal Authorities at Highland Gold, detailed the company's comprehensive preparatory work, which commenced last year. Efforts have included geological exploration, technological research, and preliminary design work for the plant, alongside the initiation of infrastructure development. This includes plans for an access motorway and the construction of power transmission lines.

Further exploratory and technological research activities are scheduled for 2024 as the project continues to gather momentum.

The Amur Region's Investment Attraction Agency is actively supporting this ambitious investment project, reflecting the regional government's commitment to tapping into the rich mineral resources of the area. The development of the Kun-Manye mining plant is expected to significantly contribute to the economic growth of the region's northern territories, creating over 1,700 new job opportunities.

Governor Vasily Orlov highlighted the project's potential, emphasizing the strategic importance of mineral extraction for the region's economic future and the positive impact of the Kun-Manye mining plant on local development.

Plans are also underway to incorporate the Kun-Manye mining plant into the Amurskaya Top Priority Development Area (TOR), further underscoring the project's significance to the region's economic landscape.
