New Facility Commissioned

Norwegian corporation Norsk Hydro has successfully commissioned a new secondary aluminium smelter located in Cassopolis Technology Park, Michigan, USA. The construction of this plant, which took approximately one and a half years, cost the company $150 million.

Plant's Production Capacity

This newly commissioned plant boasts an annual production capacity of about 120,000 tonnes. It will primarily produce aluminium products under the Circal brand, with at least 75% of the material sourced from aluminium scrap. This approach is aimed at minimizing specific carbon dioxide emissions.

Commercial Production and Market Focus

Commercial production at the plant is slated to begin in the first quarter of 2024, with the goal of reaching full operational capacity by the fourth quarter of the same year. Initially, the plant will cater to the construction industry, but plans are in place to shift its focus to the automotive sector, particularly for the production of electric vehicles.
