Rusal, the multinational aluminum producer, has reportedly augmented its production of foundry alloys to include a higher percentage of aluminum scrap. The updated alloy now incorporates 25-30% of recycled content, reflecting a rise from the initial 20%.
Commitment to Sustainability and OEM Standards
The enhanced foundry alloys, known as Primary Equivalent Foundry Alloys (PEFA), integrate over a quarter of recycled aluminum into the molten metal during the production process. Rusal's move aligns with a broader industry push towards sustainability, ensuring the new alloys meet the stringent technical requirements of original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) while simultaneously contributing to lower carbon emissions.
Global Presence and Market Performance
Rusal operates globally across 20 countries and is publicly traded, with its presence marked on both the Hong Kong and Moscow stock exchanges. Despite the company's progressive steps towards sustainable production, RUSAL reported a 54.3% decrease in net profit for the first half of 2023 and a revenue reduction of 16.9%.
