October 10, 2023

Copper Production Shifts

Based on H1 2023 equity copper production data from Kitco, while the top three - Chilean National Copper Company, Freeport-McMoRan, and BHP Billiton - remained consistent, Zijin Mining reported a 19.1% increase year-on-year, adding 79,000 tons to its output. This surge places Zijin as the world's fourth-largest copper producer, moving ahead of Glencore and Southern Copper.

Gold Production Stats

In Mining Intelligence's H1 2023 gold mining rankings, Newmont and Barrick secured the top two spots, with Newmont reporting 2.514 million ounces. Zijin Mining came in ninth, producing 747,000 ounces, up from 542,000 ounces in H1 2022. Worth noting, Uzbekistan's Navoi Mining & Metallurgy and Russia's Polyus, producing 1.396 million and 1.275 million ounces respectively, were not included in this list.

Zijin Mining's Position

Representing Chinese non-ferrous metal enterprises, Zijin Mining's recent performance has positioned it within the top ten for both copper and gold production globally.
