UAC Commissions New Aluminium Billet Casting Line in Romania, Boosting Aerospace Production
UAC, a global leader in manufacturing structural components for the aerospace industry, has successfully commissioned a new aluminium billet casting line at its Satu Mare plant in Romania. This new facility enhances UAC's capacity to produce aerospace-grade alloys, serving customers across Europe and globally. The investment is poised to expand UAC's product offerings and solidify its position as a key player in the aerospace extrusion market.
The new casting line, fully supplied by Almex USA, features advanced technology designed to optimize production. The equipment package includes the EXCELL billet tooling system, a patented three-chamber LARS degassing system, a FILTREX ceramic foam filtration system, and a MEGA DC casting machine. These components are integrated into the CASTRIGHT® III automation and SCADA system, ensuring seamless operation and control throughout the casting process.
Almex USA, based in Buena Park, California, provided not only the casting line equipment but also extensive technology support, installation supervision, and training for UAC's staff. The commissioning process, overseen by Almex specialists, involved a successful casting campaign using various aerospace alloys, including 7075 and 2026. The LARS degassing system demonstrated exceptional efficiency, with hydrogen levels recorded using the ABB AlSCAN™, confirming the system's high performance.
UAC has over four decades of experience in the aerospace sector, producing structural components and assemblies from facilities in the U.S., Europe, and Asia. The company specializes in the 2000- and 7000-series alloys, which are critical for aerospace applications.
