Getech Partners with East Star Resources for Porphyry Copper Exploration in Kazakhstan
Getech has secured a contract with East Star Resources to locate porphyry copper deposits in Kazakhstan, an initiative under the BHP Xplor 2024 accelerator program. This partnership marks the first application of Getech's Globe geoscience platform in the search for porphyry copper, following a recent joint venture agreement to explore for sedimentary copper in the region.
Under the new contract, Getech will utilize its Globe geoscience platform, integrating potential fields data with East Star Resources' local knowledge and technical expertise. The company plans to conduct a detailed structural interpretation of the area, employing machine learning techniques to identify prospective zones for porphyry copper deposits, which are known for their sizable yields and cost-effective extraction.
East Star, participating in the BHP Xplor 2024 program aimed at supporting mineral exploration to aid the energy transition, has already secured two exploration licenses for copper porphyry in Kazakhstan and is aiming to acquire more.
The global demand for copper is expected to rise, driven by its critical role in green technologies and electrification. The discovery of new copper sources is essential as existing reserves dwindle.
Richard Bennett, CEO of Getech, expressed satisfaction with the company's recurring involvement in the BHP Xplor program and its growing recognition in facilitating efficient, lower-risk mineral exploration. Alex Walker, CEO of East Star, compared Kazakhstan's mineral potential to that of Western Australia in the 1970s and expressed confidence in Getech's capabilities to boost their exploration efforts.
