Midland and Rio Tinto Launch Lithium Drilling Program at Galinee Project
Midland Exploration, in collaboration with Rio Tinto Exploration Canada (RTEC), has officially commenced a significant drilling program at the Galinee project, strategically positioned about 8 kilometers east of Winsome Resources' Adina lithium deposit. This initiative marks the project's first drilling endeavor, showcasing the partners' commitment to advancing lithium exploration.
The Galinee project, entirely owned by Midland, entered into an option agreement with RTEC in June 2023, setting the stage for this ambitious exploration. The drilling program, with a budget of 5.8 million CAD (approximately 4.23 million USD), targets the Iceberg Showing—a zone characterized by spodumene-bearing pegmatite dykes spanning at least 600 meters in strike length. Remarkably, grab samples from this area have returned high-grade lithium oxide (Li2O) assays, reaching up to 7.2%.
Scheduled to kick off in early April, the drilling program aims to meticulously assess the Iceberg spodumene pegmatites' grade and geometrical features, building on findings from 2023 drilling activities along several fences. This endeavor represents a crucial step in understanding the potential lithium resources present within the Galinee project.
Beyond drilling, the partnership has outlined plans for extensive surface exploration during the summer months, focusing on promising targets identified by a high-resolution airborne magnetic and radiometric survey conducted in 2023. These exploratory efforts are designed to uncover structures potentially hosting spodumene pegmatites, contributing to a comprehensive 1.3 million CAD (approximately 0.95 million USD) reconnaissance exploration program that spans ten projects covered by the option agreement.
