Oman Launches Aluminium Initiative in Suhar to Drive Industrial Growth

November 20, 2024

The Ministry of Commerce, Industry & Investment Promotion has launched the Aluminium Initiative in Suhar, in the North Al Batinah Governorate. This ambitious project aligns with Oman’s Industrial Strategy 2040, aiming to diversify the economy and promote sustainable industrial growth.

The initiative seeks to create an integrated economic cluster focused on downstream aluminium industries, emphasizing domestic production and strengthening value chains. This cluster is expected to position Oman as a regional leader in aluminium manufacturing and processing.

The initial phase of the project will involve an investment of RO 180 million, establishing 27 factories that will support a range of aluminium-based industries. These factories will leverage advanced technologies and innovative processes to produce high-quality products for both local and international markets. The project is also anticipated to generate 3,855 direct and indirect jobs, fostering employment and skill development in the region.

As part of Oman’s broader Industrial Strategy 2040, the Aluminium Initiative aims to enhance the competitiveness of locally produced goods and support economic diversification. The strategic location of Suhar, with its access to world-class infrastructure like SOHAR Port and Freezone, further enhances the cluster's potential to boost exports and attract investment.

Through initiatives like this, Oman is positioning itself as a competitive player in the global aluminium market, supporting long-term economic growth and aligning with the broader goals of Oman Vision 2040.
