Savannah Resources Reports Exceptional Lithium Grades at Barroso Project
Savannah Resources, overseeing the development of Europe's largest spodumene lithium deposit in Portugal, has announced unprecedented lithium intercepts from its Barroso Lithium Project. The latest drilling results from the first phase of the current two-stage program have unveiled a new high-grade zone of spodumene lithium mineralization within the Pinheiro deposit. The Pinheiro deposit, set to be the project's initial mining focus, reported a JORC (2012) compliant resource of 2.0Mt at 1.00% Li2O, contributing to the overall project resource of 28Mt at 1.05% Li2O.
Key findings from the Pinheiro deposit's Western Pegmatite include six Reverse Circulation (RC) drill holes and two additional holes from the hydrogeological assessment program, all confirming significant lithium presence. Notable results include 76m at 1.85% Li2O from 24m depth and sections showing even higher grades, such as 39m at 2.21% Li2O and 10m at 2.28% Li2O. This discovery points to potential improvements in the project's early cash flow and overall net present value.
Dale Ferguson, Savannah's Technical Director, expressed enthusiasm over these findings, noting they represent the highest-grade lithium intercepts from the project to date. CEO Emanuel Proença also highlighted the potential economic significance of these results for the project's initial operational year.
The recent drilling efforts at Pinheiro, totaling 705m of RC holes and an additional 260m for hydrogeological testing, have not only reinforced the depth and quality of lithium mineralization but also identified significant high-grade extensions, especially at depth.
With assay results still pending for some drill holes, Savannah Resources anticipates further positive updates from the Pinheiro deposit, underscoring the project's considerable geological potential and its importance for lithium production in Europe.
