Global Zinc Market Surplus Falls in July as Usage Rises

The global zinc market surplus dropped to 14,000 metric tons in July 2024, down from 36,400 tons in June, according to data released by the International Lead and Zinc Study Group (ILZSG) on Wednesday.

From January to July 2024, the global zinc surplus totaled 254,000 tons, a significant decrease from the 466,000-ton surplus recorded during the same period in 2023.

Zinc mine production for July 2024 reached 995,600 metric tons, a slight decline from June’s 1,012,400 metric tons. Meanwhile, metal production in July stood at 1,171,400 metric tons, compared to 1,187,800 metric tons in June.

Zinc usage increased in July 2024, rising to 1,185,400 metric tons from 1,151,400 metric tons in June. Over the first seven months of the year, zinc usage reached 7.797 million tons, up from 7.599 million tons during the same period in 2023.
