ReElement and IRIS Metals Partner to Boost US Lithium Production

October 11, 2024

American Resources Corporation's subsidiary, ReElement Technologies, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with IRIS Metals Limited to produce battery-grade lithium carbonate in the United States. ReElement will apply its proprietary technology to convert spodumene concentrate (SC6) from IRIS Metals' Beecher Lithium Project in South Dakota.

This collaboration will transform IRIS Metals from an exploration company into a near-term lithium producer, strengthening the domestic supply chain for critical minerals. The Beecher Project has already produced spodumene concentrate with 6% lithium content, which will be converted into battery-grade lithium carbonate to meet the growing demand for electric vehicles and energy storage systems.

IRIS Metals Chairman Peter Marks described the partnership as a pivotal step for IRIS, while ReElement CEO Mark Jensen emphasized the importance of securing reliable lithium sources to support an integrated supply chain.

The conversion process will take place entirely in the United States using ReElement's environmentally friendly technology, which offers reduced costs and a lower environmental impact compared to conventional methods. The partnership aims to enhance domestic lithium supply, in alignment with the goals of the Inflation Reduction Act. Full commercialization is expected by 2025.
