Aurubis Opens €740 Million Multi-Metal Recycling Plant in Georgia, U.S.

September 23, 2024

Hamburg-based copper producer Aurubis has inaugurated a new recycling plant in Augusta, Georgia, marking a significant investment of approximately €740 million (USD 789 million). The new facility will process a range of materials, including printed circuit boards and copper cables, as part of the company's multi-metal production strategy. Beyond copper, the plant will also produce other metals, which led Aurubis to label it a multi-metal plant.

Once fully operational, the plant will employ over 230 workers and is expected to process up to 180,000 tons of material annually. This investment is in line with Aurubis’ increasing focus on copper production and other metals within its portfolio. The company recently sold a rolling mill in the U.S. and divested parts of its flat-rolling division in 2022, shifting its focus towards its core business.
