China’s Aluminum Imports Rise 1.9% in August, Bauxite Imports Surge 34.4%

China's imports of unwrought aluminum and aluminum products rose by 1.9% in August, reaching 280,000 metric tons compared to the same month last year, according to customs data released on Wednesday.

For the first eight months of the year, total aluminum imports amounted to 2.58 million tons, a 51% increase year-on-year. The figures cover both primary metal and unwrought, alloyed aluminum, highlighting the sustained demand for aluminum in the country.

In addition to aluminum, China also saw a significant rise in bauxite imports, a key raw material for aluminum production. Bauxite imports surged by 34.4% in August to 15.55 million tons. Over the first eight months of 2024, bauxite imports climbed 11.8% to 107.86 million tons, reflecting the increasing need for raw materials to support the aluminum sector.
