Aston Martin Secures £6 Million UK Government Grant for Sustainable Aluminium Project
Aston Martin has been awarded £6 million in UK Government funding through the Advanced Propulsion Centre UK (APC) to support the development of 100% recycled aluminium castings for its future models. This funding will be directed toward Project PIVOT, a collaborative initiative led by Coventry-based aluminium supplier Sarginsons. The project aims to revolutionize the casting industry by enhancing the design, weight, carbon emissions, and production process of cast aluminium, with a focus on using fully recycled content.
The initiative aligns with Aston Martin's broader sustainability strategy, "Racing. Green.," which emphasizes reducing the environmental impact of its supply chain. This funding comes on the heels of Aston Martin joining Drive Sustainability, a partnership aimed at improving social, ethical, and environmental performance across the automotive industry.
Roberto Fedeli, Aston Martin's Chief Technology Officer, highlighted the importance of the project in advancing low-carbon alloys and increasing the use of recycled materials in Aston Martin vehicles. APC Chief Executive Ian Constance emphasized the role of such projects in supporting the UK's net-zero goals and showcasing the automotive sector's investment potential.
Aston Martin continues to explore alternative powertrains, including plug-in hybrid and battery electric vehicles, with the launch of its Valhalla model expected in 2025.
