AngloGold Ashanti Acquires Centamin in a Share Swap Deal

American gold mining company AngloGold Ashanti is set to acquire Centamin, a company registered offshore on the British island of Jersey. Shareholders from both companies have approved the deal, which is expected to be finalized by the end of November. The acquisition will be conducted through a share swap, with current shareholders of AngloGold Ashanti holding 83.6% of the total capital, while Centamin shareholders will own 16.4%.

Centamin's primary asset is the Sukari gold mine, which produces approximately 450 thousand ounces of gold annually. Following the acquisition, AngloGold Ashanti's total gold production will increase to around 3 million ounces per year, making it the fourth largest gold producer globally, trailing only Newmont, Barrick Gold, and Agnico Eagle.

AngloGold Ashanti, originally formed through a merger in 2004, operates gold mining activities across multiple countries, including Brazil, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania, Ghana, the United States, Australia, and others.
