EMP Metals Launches Lithium Extraction Pilot in Saskatchewan
EMP Metals today announced the launch of its Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) Field Pilot Facility in Estevan, Saskatchewan. This marks the first deployment of the Koch Technology Solutions DLE pilot technology in Canada.
The pilot facility is set to operate under conditions that mimic actual field operations, utilizing high-lithium concentration feed brine sourced from the Viewfield area. Recent tests in this area have recorded lithium concentrations as high as 259 mg/L. The facility, equipped with a pre-filtration and a heater skid designed by Saltworks Technologies, aims to maintain the feed brine at around 60 degrees Celsius.
The facility plans to operate continuously—24 hours a day, seven days a week—over the coming months. This intensive schedule is designed to collect performance data essential for the planning and development of a commercial-scale facility projected for Southern Saskatchewan.
During its initial run, the facility processed around 4,500 liters of feed brine daily, a volume adjusted for the high lithium concentrations which allow for efficient lithium capture in each cycle. Preliminary results from third-party laboratory tests have shown average lithium concentrations of 185 mg/L in the brine, confirming the feed's compliance with required specifications.
In a related development, EMP Metals' board of directors has approved the issuance of 300,000 incentive stock options to selected employees and consultants. These options are priced at $0.40 per share and are valid for a five-year term, with vesting conditions as specified by the board. This grant is contingent on approval from the Canadian Securities Exchange and aligns with the company's stock option plan.
