Lohum Cleantech to Invest $30 Million in U.S. Lithium-Ion Battery Materials Processing Facility

September 30, 2024

Lohum Cleantech, an India-based lithium-ion battery pack maker and recycler, has announced a partnership with U.S.-based ReElement Technologies and American Metals to establish a lithium-ion battery materials processing facility in the United States. The initial investment for the project is set at $30 million.

The facility, located at the Marion Advanced Technology Center in Indiana, will have a production capacity of 15.5 GWh and is expected to serve over 315,000 electric vehicles annually. The plant will focus on battery recycling, repurposing, and critical material production, with further expansion planned based on feedstock availability. Lohum stated that the project will also create 250 green jobs.

Lohum’s Founder and CEO, Rajat Verma, said the joint venture would be instrumental in building resilient critical material supply chains for the U.S. battery sector. The venture aims to strengthen North America's domestic battery ecosystem by producing high-purity lithium and other critical materials necessary for lithium-based battery manufacturing.

Mark Jensen, Chairman of American Metals and ReElement Technologies, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, emphasizing the collaboration’s potential to scale critical mineral recycling and refining.
