StB Giga Factory Opens PHP 7-Billion Lithium Battery Production Complex in the Philippines
StB Giga Factory Inc, an Australian-Chinese joint venture, has officially inaugurated a PHP 7-billion ($124.6 million) production facility for lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries in the Philippines. The factory, located at the Filinvest Innovation Park in New Clark City, Tarlac province, will supply the renewable energy and automotive sectors.
The manufacturing complex was opened on Monday in a ceremony attended by Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos. Construction of the facility began last summer with strategic investment from Brisbane-based StB Capital Partners and its Chinese development partners.
Initially, the plant will have a production capacity of 300 MWh per year, which is sufficient to produce approximately 30,000 home battery storage systems or 6,000 electric vehicle (EV) batteries. The company plans to ramp up production, targeting full capacity of 2 GWh annually by 2030.
About 70% of the factory's output will be exported to Australia, Southeast Asia, and North America, while the remaining 30% will be supplied to the domestic market in the Philippines. The project is expected to create around 2,500 direct and indirect jobs.
