Canada Nickel to Develop Nickel and Stainless-Steel Facilities in Timmins

Canada Nickel announced its plans to establish two new processing facilities through its subsidiary, NetZero Metals, in the Timmins Nickel District. The proposed facilities include a nickel processing plant and a stainless-steel and alloy production facility. These developments aim to provide a significant boost to the Timmins Nickel District, contributing to the North American critical minerals supply chains and supporting Ontario's electric vehicle strategy. Both facilities are designed to operate with zero carbon emissions, leveraging Canada Nickel's carbon storage technology at its Crawford Nickel project.

Currently, the company is in the process of selecting a site for these facilities and choosing engineering firms for their design. Feasibility studies are expected to be completed by the end of the year, with the nickel processing plant anticipated to start production in 2027. According to Mark Selby, CEO of Canada Nickel Company, these initiatives will place Canada and the Timmins Nickel District at the forefront of the transition to greener energy and materials.

The project is expected to create a local supply of critical minerals and stainless steel with zero carbon output, in line with the growing demand for environmentally responsible production in North America. Mike Cox, with 35 years of experience in nickel processing, will lead the global team responsible for building and operating these facilities.

Local and provincial leaders have expressed their support for the project, highlighting its potential to transform Timmins into a hub for clean nickel production essential for electric vehicle manufacturing. The initiative is seen as a significant opportunity for job creation and economic growth in the region.

The NetZero Metals project is viewed as a major step towards sustainable mining and processing practices, combining global expertise, environmentally conscious technology, and Canadian talent to pursue a greener future actively.
