Americas Gold and Silver Corporation Announces Q1-2024 Production Results and New COO Appointment
Americas Gold and Silver Corporation has released its first-quarter production results for 2024 and announced the appointment of Jim Currie as the new Chief Operating Officer. The company produced approximately 0.48 million ounces of silver, along with 8.0 million pounds of zinc and 4.0 million pounds of lead during this period.
The Cosala Operations showcased strong performance with silver production exceeding expectations due to higher-than-anticipated silver grades and recoveries. However, production at the Galena Complex was slightly below expectations as efforts were redirected towards development activities to access new mining areas.
Jim Currie, who has over 40 years of experience in the mining sector, including leadership roles at Equinox Gold Corp., Pretium Resources Inc., and New Gold Inc., will join the company effective May 6, 2024. His expertise is expected to enhance operational efficiencies and production at the Galena Complex.
In addition, Americas is in the final stages of securing prepayment financing for its wholly-owned El Cajon and Zone 120 silver-copper project, known as the EC120 Project, at the Cosala Operations. The financing is expected to close in the second quarter of 2024, with production of high-grade silver-copper concentrates anticipated to start in early 2025.
The company remains optimistic about its production outlook for the year, expecting increased output from both the Galena Complex and the EC120 Project. This comes at a time when silver and copper prices are experiencing upward trends, aligning well with Americas' growth and production strategies.
