Alara Resources Reports Initial Production and Delay at New Copper Concentrator Plant in Oman

April 22, 2024

Alara Resources has announced the commissioning of its new copper concentrator plant at Al Wash-hi Majaza in Oman, a project managed through its majority-owned joint venture, Al Hadeetha Resources. The plant, with an annual capacity of 1 million tonnes, began operations by processing low-grade ore to produce copper concentrate.

Initially, the plant produced low-grade copper concentrate, with plans to escalate the ore quality to reach sale-grade levels in the upcoming weeks. However, the ramp-up process has encountered challenges due to the underperformance of the tailing filter press, which has not met its design capacity. This technical issue is currently being addressed by engineers, with a solution expected soon.

Due to these operational difficulties, the timeline for the sale of the first copper concentrate, initially scheduled for April 2024, has been postponed. Alara will announce a revised timeline once the issues are resolved and operations stabilize.
