Alba Secures Capral Aluminium as First Customer for Low-Carbon Aluminium Billet

July 29, 2024

Aluminium Bahrain (Alba), the world's largest single-site smelter, has announced that Capral Aluminium, Australasia's only ASI Certified extruder, is the first customer for its newly launched EternAI low-carbon aluminium primary billet. The EternAI product line, introduced in May 2024, features two initial variants: EternAl-30 and EternAl-15, which contain 30% and 15% recycled content, respectively, thus significantly reducing their carbon footprints.

The sustainability credentials of EternAI have been independently verified by DNV, a global leader in verification assurance. Capral Aluminium has successfully completed trials of both EternAl-15 and EternAl-30, positioning it to supply lower-carbon aluminium to various Australian manufacturing sectors, including marine, defense, transport, construction, signage, and general fabrication.

Ali Al Baqali, CEO of Alba, emphasized the company's commitment to sustainable aluminium production, stating, “The successful trials of EternAl-15 and EternAl-30 with Capral represent a significant leap forward in achieving our mission. Partnering with Capral allows us to deliver high-quality, recycled content products to the Australian market and revolutionize the aluminium industry.”

Luke Hawkins, General Manager Industrial and Supply Chain at Capral, praised Alba's proactive approach and support in developing primary billet with recycled content. He highlighted the importance of Alba's ASI Chain of Custody certification, which ensures that the material supplied to Capral is responsibly produced at every stage of the aluminium value chain.

Alba aims to scale EternAI production to meet the growing global demand for sustainable aluminium, empowering customers worldwide to reduce their environmental impact.
