Amplify Cell Technologies Breaks Ground on New Battery Manufacturing Plant in Mississippi
Amplify Cell Technologies, a joint venture between Accelera by Cummins, Daimler Trucks & Buses US Holding, and PACCAR, has commenced construction of a state-of-the-art battery cell manufacturing plant in Marshall County, Mississippi. The 500-acre site will house a two million-square-foot facility with an annual production capacity of 21-gigawatt hours (GWh) of lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery cells. Production is set to begin in 2027, and the project is expected to create over 2,000 manufacturing jobs in the U.S.
Kel Kearns, CEO of Amplify, expressed enthusiasm about the project: “United in the mission to decarbonize our highways and interstates, our founding partners are making a serious commitment. Marking the start of construction signifies this collective effort, and together we will lead the transformation of the commercial transportation industry.”
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by leaders from Accelera, Daimler, and PACCAR, alongside Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves, U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith, and other local officials. Governor Reeves highlighted the significance of the project, calling it the largest payroll commitment in the state's history and a major boost to Mississippi’s electric economy.
Senator Hyde-Smith emphasized the importance of domestic production to meet growing energy demands: “This joint venture is not only a major job booster for Mississippi but sets an example for future endeavors in the transportation industry.”
Senator Roger Wicker added, “This project will change thousands of lives in North Mississippi. Our business-friendly climate is attracting investment at a record level.”
The facility will focus on producing LFP battery cells, known for their durability and cost-effectiveness, to support the growing electric commercial vehicle market in North America. The partners, Accelera by Cummins, Daimler Truck, and PACCAR, have committed a combined investment of $2 to $3 billion in the joint venture, each holding a 30% stake. EVE Energy, a global leader in LFP battery cell manufacturing, owns the remaining 10% and will provide its expertise in battery cell design and production.
