Galan Lithium Initiates Maiden Filling of Pond 1 at Hombre Muerto West
Galan Lithium has announced the commencement of the initial filling of Pond 1 at its Hombre Muerto West (HMW) Phase 1 lithium brine project. This marks a step in the project's progress towards lithium chloride production, expected in the first half of 2025.
Project Developments and Expectations
- The initial filling of Pond 1 has begun, with the evaporation process set to start within two weeks following the completion of quality testing. This step is integral to the long-term production schedule of the HMW Project.
- The liner installation for Pond 1 is rapidly advancing, currently at 40% completion, while the construction of Pond 2's earthworks is also progressing well, with 20% completion.
- The HMW Project aims to produce a premium high-grade lithium chloride concentrate with a 6% Li content, equivalent to 13% Li2O or 32% Lithium Carbonate Equivalent (LCE), by the first half of 2025.
- Galan Lithium boasts low all-in sustaining costs, positioning HMW in the first quartile of the lithium industry’s cost curve, with an operating cost of $US3,510/t LCE.
Future Prospects and Ongoing Activities
- An updated resource estimate for the project is anticipated in the first quarter of 2024.
- Additionally, Galan Lithium is preparing for a due diligence site visit by Glencore later this week.
