Gazprombank to Finance Rusal’s Smelter Modernization with 40 Billion Rubles (USD 450 Million)

June 12, 2024

Gazprombank plans to provide up to 40 billion rubles (USD 450 million) in financing to implement advanced technologies at Rusal's Krasnoyarsk (KrAZ) and Bratsk (BrAZ) aluminum smelters. These are the group's largest smelters, producing over 2 million tons of aluminum annually. The financing agreement was signed during SPIEF-2024.

The modernization project involves converting 50% of KrAZ and BrAZ capacities to pre-annealed anode technology while maintaining total metal output. This investment aims to enhance both environmental friendliness and production efficiency. As a result of the upgrades, emissions of tarry substances and hydrogen fluoride are expected to be reduced by ten times.
