Guixà Family Increases Stake in La Farga to Over 80%

February 1, 2024

In a significant shift in shareholding, the Guixà family holding company has acquired additional shares from certain branches of the Fisas family in La Farga, a distinguished metallurgical firm based in Catalonia, specializing in copper production, particularly from recycled sources. This acquisition has elevated the Guixà family's ownership to more than 80%, a notable increase from the 56% they previously controlled.

La Farga, with a storied history spanning 216 years, was initially founded in 1808 by Francisco Lacambra. It underwent a renaissance in 1980 under the leadership of Vicente Fisas and Oriol Guixà, achieving a milestone in 1986 by pioneering the world's first continuous casting process for recycled copper.

The company, rooted in Les Masies de Voltregà (Barcelona) and extending its operations to Fort Wayne (United States) through a joint venture, is on track to surpass a turnover of 1.3 billion euros in 2023, an increase from 1.1 billion euros in 2022. Its consolidated EBITDA is also projected to grow to 40 million euros in 2023.

Oriol Guixà Arderiu, the Chairman of La Farga's board, emphasized that this shift in shareholding underscores the company's commitment to maintaining its status as a robust, family-owned enterprise with a forward-looking, long-term perspective that honors its heritage while securing its future prosperity.
