Guiyang Aluminum & Magnesium Institute Advances International and Technological Expansion

September 20, 2024

In 2022, Guiyang Aluminum and Magnesium Design and Research Institute made its debut in the North American high-end market by signing a pre-feasibility study contract with Canada’s Rio Tinto Group for an aluminum electrolysis expansion project. This milestone was followed by Yunnan Shenhuo Intelligent Chemical Plant, one of the first in China's non-ferrous metals industry to fully integrate 5G connectivity, becoming a benchmark for 5G-connected factories, recognized by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

By 2023, Guiyang Aluminum & Magnesium Institute shifted its focus to creating high-quality productivity through green, low-carbon, and digital transformation. The company established an intelligent professional team and contributed to guidelines and standards, such as the "Guidelines for the Construction of Intelligent Smelting Plants in the Nonferrous Metals Industry." Through this, the institute developed a replicable management model that integrates proprietary technologies, fostering new service and business models for the industry.

A major achievement occurred in July 2023, when a 500kA electrolysis series designed by Guiyang Aluminum & Magnesium Institute in Indonesia successfully commissioned its first 250,000 tons of production. This project, with a full capacity of 500,000 tons annually, represents China’s first export of 500kA large-scale aluminum electrolysis tank technology and marks an important milestone in internationalizing Chinese expertise under the Belt and Road Initiative.

The institute's momentum continued into 2024 with the launch of the Tongchuan Aluminum-based New Materials Project by Shaanxi Nonferrous Metals Group, aimed at overcoming bottlenecks in high-end aluminum alloy production and extending the industrial chain.

Guiyang Aluminum & Magnesium Institute’s dedication to innovation has been crucial to its success. By embracing intelligent, green, and high-end developments, the company is driving forward technological advancements in the non-ferrous metals sector and contributing to the industry's high-quality economic growth.
