Hindustan Zinc to Explore Zinc Battery Applications Amid Global Energy Transition

Hindustan Zinc Limited, the world's second-largest integrated zinc producer and third-largest silver producer, is set to explore new applications of zinc in batteries as part of its strategy to support the global energy transition. Chairperson Priya Agarwal Hebbar announced that the company is focusing on enhancing production volumes, reducing production costs, and creating stakeholder value.

As Hindustan Zinc prepares for the fiscal year 2025, it forecasts mined and refined metal production to reach between 1,100-1,125 kilotons and 1,075-1,100 kilotons, respectively. Additionally, the company projects its saleable silver production for FY25 to be between 750-775 metric tons, with the cost of zinc production expected to be between USD 1,050-1,100 per metric ton.

Supporting these growth plans is the ramp-up of major projects commissioned in the previous year and improved capacity utilization. Expansion projects include a 160,000 tons per annum roaster and a 510,000 tons per annum fertilizer plant, both of which are on track.

Hindustan Zinc recently received regulatory approvals for the Bamnia Kalan mine, which is expected to become operational soon, further bolstering its production capabilities.
